Exploiting Page Table Locality for Agile TLB Prefetching

Abstract summary

This work exploits neighbouring entries already fetched during a page-table access to make translation prefetching less expensive. A sampling mechanism predicts which of those entries are likely to be useful. It is paired with an adaptive composite prefetcher that selects among several prediction strategies and disables unhelpful speculation. The evaluation covers industrial, general-purpose and data-intensive workloads.
