To Cross, or Not to Cross Pages for Prefetching?

Georgios Vavouliotis, Marti Torrents, Boris Grot, Kleovoulos Kalaitzidis, Leeor Peled, Marc Casas

Abstract summary

Prefetching across virtual-memory page boundaries can help execution, but inaccurate requests also consume bandwidth and translation resources. The MOKA framework combines program features, hardware-state information and adaptation across execution phases to decide when crossing a page is worthwhile. Its DRIPPER prototype filters requests from existing first-level prefetchers and is evaluated with different workloads, core counts and page sizes.
